Retreats

A retreat is a time to focus on listening to God in your own life as well as in the resources of Bible, prayer, and the quiet and beauty of the countryside. You may want to simply come and be here for a few days, with someone else to think about making the meals and without the telephone to worry about. You may want to talk to someone about the things that are important to you, joys or sorrows.

An 'individually guided retreat' is exactly what it says it is. Each day of the retreat there is a personal meeting with a prayer guide. During that meeting there is time to focus on the individual's experience of prayer during the day, and scripture passages and other helps are offered for the next day's prayer. As with all retreats it is primarily a time of listening to to God and the retreat guide is there as a companion, listener and supporter. An individually guided retreat can be of varying lengths, depending on circumstances. At least three days are usually needed . Five or eight days is a good length to aim for - but don't be put off if you have only a shorter time available. The quiet helps in focusing and relaxing - we offer a tray in your room for meals if there are others staying who are not keeping silence.

A 'private retreat' is a time of personal quiet, rest and reflection. We are available if you want to talk or pray with us about anything and you are welcome to join in our daily prayers.

The 'Ignatian spiritual exercises' can be prayed as a 30 day residential retreat here. An alternative is an 'Annotation 19' retreat (so called because it is in note 19 of the Spiritual Exercises that Ignatius refers to this kind of retreat). In an 'Annotation 19' the 30 days retreat is spread over a number of months, with the retreatant praying at home and having a regular meeting with a prayer guide. We offer both methods and invite you to phone and chat about either.

'Quiet days' You are welcome for an individual Quiet Day here. Why not think of having a day away from the phone especially if you are in the ordained. ministry.  Or you may think of bringing a small group (12 is about the limit for comfort and space) from your Church, Mother's union, Prayer Group, or friends. We can provide some input or you can plan your own day. You can have meals here or bring a packed lunch while we provide a cuppa. For prices and arrangements see 'Bookings'

'Groups' We can accommodate groups of up to 5 in single room or up to 10 if rooms are shared e.g. small Alpha groups, PCC weekends, small parish retreats. The group can be self led or we can provide input. Look in 'The House'  for details of accommodation.
