Accommodation
The
house, a 2* listed building, was built as Almshouses for clergy widows in
1750, probably on the site of an earlier building associated with the medieval
Parish Church in Corwen. There were originally six small houses, with one room
downstairs and one upstairs and a brew house at the end of the row where they
could brew their ale (now the kitchen!) Four of the front doors remain and if
you look carefully you can see signs of the remaining two. An archway divides
the house into two parts and leads into the churchyard and a path to the town
square.
Coleg y Groes 1 (to the right of the central archway) can accommodate five people and Coleg y Groes 2 (to the left) can accommodate four. Both are available for single occupancy (there is a 20% discount), providing a very private and quiet environment. The whole house can be booked by a group (up to nine people) and the kitchen of Coleg y Groes 1 has suitable equipment for catering for this number. Bedding and bed linen and towels are provided. Gas and electricity are included.
Coleg y Groes 1 comprises a large kitchen, dining room, lounge, bedroom with twin beds, a second bedroom with twin beds and an extra single bed in small room off this bedroom, bathroom.
The
kitchen has a gas fired four oven Aga which is on all the time, providing
welcome warmth on chilly days and ever ready cooking facility whether you want
to boil an egg or prepare a full meal (if you are not used to cooking on an Aga
we will happily show you how to use it). There is a microwave, dish washer, two
fridges, and cooking equipment. (One cupboard contains large cooking containers
for groups who book the whole house and need to cater for a larger number.)
There is a freezer in the outhouse adjoining the kitchen.
There
is gas central heating throughout and the lounge also has an open fireplace; an
initial basket of logs is provided. In the lounge there is a settee and chairs.
There i
s
a sitting area in the dining room as well as table and chairs (the table will
expand to seat eight or nine). A cupboard beside the gas fire contains extra
crockery for use if a group books the whole house. The lounge and dining room
both have beams and wooden shutters at the windows.
A narrow staircase leads to a bathroom and separate toilet. The first bedroom has twin beds, a small wardrobe and hand wash basin. The second bedroom has twin beds, a larger wardrobe, desk and hand wash basin. A small room off (over the archway) has a small, single bed and can be curtained off.
The kitchen has a T.V. with freeview. There is a CD Player and Internet access is available.
There is shared access to a washing machine and tumble dryer and to the Quiet Room and garden. Garden chairs are available and there are lots of books, jigsaws, board games and local information.

Coleg y Groes 2 comprises entrance hall; living room/kitchen; ground floor shower room; bedroom with double bed; bedroom with twin beds; bath/shower.
The Living Room has a lounge area with settee and chair, dining table and chairs and mini-kitchen. The mini-kitchen has a fridge, microwave, hob and sink There is a supply of cooking equipment and crockery. (pictures to follow)
The entrance hall has a freezer and a storage cupboard. There is a shower room in this area also.

A narrow stairs leads to a bathroom with over the bath shower and toilet. The first bedroom has a double bed, hanging cupboard, desk and wash hand basin. There is an additional toilet next to it.
